Garaventa Stair-Porter Power Emergency Evacuation Wheelchair Access Chair Lift

Garaventa Stair-Porter is an emergency evacuation carrier designed to transport a person with a mobility limitation up and down the stairs in the event of a fire or other event which disables the elevators of a building. The unit is portable and easily set-up. It includes a Velcro torso restraint and kickstand. DIMENSIONS: The frame is 59 x 19 x 33 inches when open; 41 x 19 x 11 inches when folded (not including the kickstand).

WHEELS: Rubber tracks with steel wires. POWER: 650 stairs; 12 V dc motor; powered by a single 12V battery. SPEED: (up) 20 feet/minute; (down) 28 feet/minute. CAPACITY: Up to 245 pounds.

The Stair-Porter is an older model stair lift chair, but it is very similar in design to the current power Evacu-trac. The patient sits on the sling and is held on with velcro straps on the chest and legs. There is an emergency stop button and forward/reverse buttons, as well as regular wheels to transport the chair on flat surfaces manually. I just installed a brand new 12V battery in this unit and the battery charger is also included.

Unit was owned by a local school where it was basically only used for fire drills as practice. It is in overall very good cosmetic condition showing only minor signs of normal use. HOWEVER, I cannot get this unit to work.

You are supposed turn the key to the on position and then press either the forward or reverse button to make the motor run and the rubber tracks to move. NOTHING happens when I press these buttons. It's as if either the drive motor is either bad, or perhaps there is a wire loose, or maybe a fuse blown.

I do know the battery is fine as you can see the battery meter light up when the key is turned on so that implies it is getting power at least somewhere, but nothing as far as the motor. Customer Service Policy: We are not experts on everything we sell, so some of our knowledge may be limited.
